In my second project, I plan on discussing the specific philanthropy, Place of Hope. I want to address what they do for the South Florida community and how it is beneficial to support this charity. I plan on interviewing a close family friend who is on the executive board of this organization and ask her about how Place of Hope has affected her and if she has had any conflicts within or about the organization.
Place of Hope is a community that rescues neglected and abused children from their troubled past lives and helps then get a new start for their future. This philanthropy is focused in Boca Raton, just about 30 minutes from my house so I can see the impacts they make first hand. I want to research this philanthropy in specific, so I can see how it influences the children. If I can, I would like to do research on an individual child so that I can see exactly what impact it had on them. I also plan on including some statistics and information about child abuse so that we can get a better look at what these children actually might have gone through
Aside from Place of Hope itself, there are many criticisms of charities and how they don’t serve their true purpose. I would like to go into further detail about what criticisms philanthropies face along with possible answers and examples. For example, many feel that donations are only a tiny drop in the bucket and that the government can do a better job. This can show some of the negative aspects of being involved with a charity or organization similar to Place of Hope.
